<content>As part of the Port Mann/Highway 1 Improvement (PMH1) Project, many overpasses along the Highway 1 corridor need to be upgraded or replaced to accommodate for:
• the future widening of the highway
• improved durability for earthquake protection
• additional clearance for today’s taller commercial vehicles.

Work will begin on the series of overpasses between Vancouver and Burnaby in August 2009, and is scheduled for completion in late 2012.

Widening of 1st Avenue and Broadway Overpasses
In Vancouver, work will begin to upgrade and partly rebuild Highway 1 overpasses at 1st Avenue and Broadway/Lougheed Highway. Each overpass will be widened from two lanes to three. This work is also an important part of improving safety and accessibility at the 1st Avenue Interchange, including lengthened on and off-ramps. Work on the overpasses will be done from the cross streets below and will take place in three stages to ensure that both overpasses will remain open to vehicles throughout construction.

<content>Beginning mid May 2012, a City of Vancouver Waterworks Crew will be replacing the existing watermain on 33rd Avenue with a new ductile iron water main. The new water main will be installed from East 33rd at Nanaimo to Kingsway at Slocan. This work is being coordinated with other work in the area.

Water main construction requires excavation of trenches in the roads and boulevards, usually in one or two blocks at a time, and each block of water main takes approximately two weeks to build. As part of this project, weekend work may be required. Barring an emergency, advance notification will be provided before any disruption to your water supply. You may
occasionally notice cloudy water as a result of the construction activities. This cloudiness is not a health concern, and will usually go away within a few hours.

During construction, parking will be restricted within posted areas. However, the City of Vancouver will endeavour to provide as much parking as possible after working hours and all temporary parking restrictions will be removed as soon as they are no longer necessary. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained at all times.

After the new water main is installed, a temporary street repair will be provided until the permanent repair can be scheduled by the City's Streets Operations Branch. Depending on weather, scheduling, and other factors, the permanent street repairs can often occur some time after construction of the water main. All sidewalk stones, curbs and boulevards will be restored to their pre-construction condition or better.
